A gun is widely known as a breech-loaded projectile-firing weapon, there are different definitions depending on location of service. A gun can be distinguished as a firearm. Artillery tubes used to be called cannons, naval cannons were called guns. The word ‘gun’ was first used by marines and sailors.

 

A gun has a hollow, tubular barrel with a breech, as the means to project, aim, and fire a flat trajectory. A gun can be referred to anything that has a trigger, is hand-held, or resembles a class of a weapon.

 

Guns as described as the type of barrel used, the type of firing, the purpose, the caliber, or the commonly accepted name of that gun. Barrels included rifled, which is a series of spiraled grooves within the barrel in which the projectile requires a spin to stabilize it and smoothbore when it is stabilized. The more popular measure in barrel is the interior diameter in decimal fractions of the inch or millimeters. Shotguns report the gauge, or weight.

 

A projectile may be a single piece like a bullet, or it could be a complex projectile like a sub-caliber projectile and sabot. The propellant can be air, explosive solid, or explosive liquid.

Machine guns include: Gatling gun, Minigun, Nordenfelt gun, Metal sotrm, Mitrileuse, Submachine gun, Machine pistol, Machine gun, General-purpose machine gun, Light machine gun, Squad automatic weapon, Infantry Automatic Rifle, Medium machine gun, Heavy machine gun, and M134 Minigun.

 

Handguns include: Pistol, Service pistol, Handgun, Revolver, Service revolver, and Machine pistol.

 

Autocannon include the Autocannon and chain gun.

 

Artillery guns include: Artilery gun, Cannon, Carronade, Falconet, Field gun, and Howitzer.

 

Hunting guns include: Elephant gun, Express rifle, Shotgun, Muzzleloader, and Breechloader.

 

Guns for training and entertainment include: Airsoft gun, BB gun, Paintball gun, Replica guns, Inert guns, Spud gun, Water gun, and Nerf gun.
